When it is your birthday, you tend to receive gifts from friends and family. They are trying to show you that they didn't forget that it is your birthday and it is considered a friendly gesture to receive the gift. Gifts can come in many different shapes and sizes from many different people such as your close circle of friends and family, co-workers, managers, and even business partners. Gift giving has always been seen as a generous act from one to the other but if the gift is giving within a business setting it can be considered a bribe. Once a the word bribe is thrown into the mixture it could lead to devastating consequences for all of the parties involved.
Is it ethical to accept a brand new car as a gift from the company's business competitor? Some people would accept the gift because they see it as just a gift and as nothing more. They are not thinking through the idea of getting a new car with no strings attached and what will this individual want from me later. They are not taking into consideration that the gift may have been given to them has an expected return result at a later time. The individual may go home thinking there is nothing wrong with having accepted the car it was a nice gesture and they really wanted me to take it home. Unfortunately, many people view a gift as a gift even if the gift has a very large price tag and it was acquired through business.
The boundaries between what is appropriate and not regarding gifts in the business world can get a little blurred at times. An individual has to take into account that if they take this expensive gift it could be considered a bribe. Karl Smith, wrote an article on the Ethical Dilemma in business gifts and this sentence stood out, "Bribery is increasingly viewed with intolerance throughout the world. In
fact, in virtually every country in the world bribery is a shameful
act." As Mr. Smith stated bribes are considered shameful and they should not happen. Taking a bribe makes an individual untrustworthy and isn't held with the same level of respect as before.
When someone is caught in the middle of an unethical decision it can be very hard and if they are forced to make the unethical decision, they may make it dependent on what they could potentially be accused of. I think there are many factors that can influence an unethical decision and taking the brand new car but I also think that an individual has to have really strong moral beliefs not to accept that bribe especially in business settings. An individual has to realize how this will affect them, their business, and their family. Do they want to see their name all over the internet or newspaper accusing them of taking bribe? Everyone who is reading the article will begin to wonder how long this person has been corrupt and how could he take bribes to get ahead. Basically, it all comes down to make the appropriate choices, make ethical business decisions, and report someone who is offering bribes in order to get something in return.

The News & Management for the Future
The future can have many uncertainties especially in the work place but if an individual stays involved with new innovations, then that organization can succeed. I think spotlighting a success story regarding the future and how that organization continues to prosper is a good example on understanding management. Konica Minolta's Business Innovation Center is involved in Robotics, Healthcare, Workplace of the Future, Enterprise Solutions and Big Data. The vice-president of the innovation is Ekta Sahasi and she has brought with her a new perspective for moving forward.
Ms. Sahasi describes the innovation center as tool to help redefine their customer relationships especially with so many new technological advances. By taking this step Minolta understands that in order to continue to be successful they need to accept new technologies and use them to achieve success and retain their costumers. The whole objective of their innovation center is to help large organizations to small businesses understand how everything is evolving and understand the market is changing. By having an innovation center, Minolta is allowing it self to be involved and a go-to location to ask questions or ask for support for new entrepreneurs. They are creating a system that is not only benefitting them but many other organizations. They are achieving all of these by having the appropriate management systems in place in order to identify what is needed from them as a business.
Minolta's business innovation center is focussing on the Workplace of the Future and helping create that drive to help others find solutions to the problems that the future may have. They can have many partners that would be able to provide insight on the innovations or practices that they are currently dealing with. Having a innovation center to benefit the new entrepreneurs in businesses would be great because everyone would benefit. All those involved would be able to share their management systems and what they may have had to change to succeed.
I wanted to spotlight a business that had created some type of system that would benefit many. I think Konica Minolta's innovation center did just that because they are thinking of innovation and how to focus on evolving technology. By having a system like this it will help new businesses actually succeed instead of going into the business without understanding the newest technologies and management systems. Overall, the innovation center was created by a management system that was managed by many individuals that put their ideas together to come up with the innovation center and what its goals would be. The innovation center will be a great resource for the businesses, entrepreneurs, and the management community.

A Review: Management in Technology
Being in management means to be involved in the companies decisions that help it prosper and succeed. It is pretty hard to determine just one review system that would be used in business management. Many different systems are used to achieve success or results. A business may use software applications to show financial management and predict future sales numbers. Software is used very often in small organizations and large organizations to help with finances. A business may show to use software to show financial management but they may also use communication management in another area of the organization. Communication management is widely used in an organization by any type of management personnel that needs to make a decision regarding sales, productions, employment, etc. Organizations are always looking into new options and taking in more knowledge to progress, one example could be the ISO9000 quality management system.
The ISO9000 was published and is still maintained by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). ISO9000 is a set of international standards that define the requirements for an effective quality management system (Hellriegel, Jackson, and Slocum). The ISO certification comes into play when organizations want to distinguish themselves from other businesses, some government agencies will not conduct business with certain entities unless they have the ISO certification, the ISO certification provide consumer confidence, and provides regulators with a type of enforcement on health standards. Being part of the ISO basically means having a higher set of standards fro the organizations products that are consumed by customers. The ISO helps organizations achieve a higher quality of goods as well to meet higher quality of management.
Management systems vary from organization to organization simply because no one organization is exactly the same and they all function differently. Organizations are comprised of many different levels of management and each level of management provides a different way of managing. Not any two departments within the organization are alike, for example the human resources department would be managed differently compared to the billing department. Every department has a manager who has the knowledge and competency to understand how to manage that department to make it run smoothly and achieve its goals. A management system helps provide direction in order to establish a balance within the organization.
As stated before, every organizations consists of different management systems to help it succeed and achieve the over arching goal. Every individual in a managerial position has to be able to make management decision that benefit the organization and also learn from the experience. As technology progresses in the work field it is very important for a manager to learn about the new management systems that keep evolving. If a manager stays up to date with the most current trends chances are that they won't fall in a runt and not being able to manage appropriately. If a manger isn't staying involved with technology and how the world is progressing it could lead to the use of outdated management systems. Overall, understanding every type of management system within your organization could benefit not only you but the organization as a whole.
