Explaining My Field: Management in Technology

An individual needs to understand that behind every decision there is some type of management that is involved. Many organizations face minor to major management decisions on a daily basis.  Management in Technology can help an individual perfect their skills in the business world by understanding managing, marketing, computing, decision-making, and strategic planning.

The management field is focused on CEO's, functional mangers, general managers, and teamwork. These individuals help run organizations by making the day to day decisions that could either create success or failure for an organization. Being able to manage an organization appropriately is key in the continual success of that organization. If the management team isn't making the appropriate decisions the organization could see itself out of business. My field is focusing on success and meeting the supply and demand from consumers. If an individual is in the management field they need to understand how they fit into the big picture and how can they help this organization improve by making the tough decisions every day.

In my field, I need to be able to understand the basic managerial functions in order to be successful. I need to be able to plan, organize, lead, and control. Understanding these concepts, will help the way I process information and make the most appropriate decision that would help create more success for the organization. My job can potentially require my to make a decision for the entire organization or it could only be a decision for the day shift. Therefore understanding how to manage appropriately and ethically would be the best approach in order to ensure success.

There are many jobs in this field which that can range from CEO's to shift/production line/program/department managers. I believe that all management positions available are very important because you are helping make a decisions that can affect many people in the world. For example, your company produces some type of healthy food product for children and if the management team throughout the whole organization isn't making the appropriate decisions regarding health and safety, then you could be facing lawsuits or bankruptcy in your company. An individual needs to understand what managing is and be successful in many of the organizational settings in order to succeed.

I think people in this field value the understanding that there is constant change evolving due to technology. If you're in a management position that involves some type of health benefit to others you value making the decisions that will improve someone else' well being. If you're your own manager then you value making decisions that will benefit your company for the future. If your part a larger organization that has hundreds of employees you value making decisions that will help continue the growth of that organization in order to continue providing jobs for those who need them.

  1. Hi Jessica

Your first sentence caught my attention (great introduction). I do not have any managerial experience but in my professional ethics course we read about how managers have to be aware of different pressures that can affect decision making processes, and how different people are different types of leaders. Every organization has some form of leadership or management, and those who are good at it make their organizations better.

  2. Hi Jessica,

It is so nice to see that I am not alone in my decision to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in integrative studies with an emphasis in Management in Technology. Your assertion at the end of your post, I think, sums up the motivation of just about everyone pursuing this degree. In order to be effective managers in today's world, we must keep up with the trends in technology which help us be more responsive and efficient. In addition, I think that continuing our educations, beyond a bachelor's degree, might also help us to better predict the trends of our field.

  3. I would have liked to see more specific examples of how this management is applied to businesses through technology itself. I was a manager at a business myself and I know it is easy to make broad sweeps because sometimes you do have to cover a lot of responsibilities. I'm just more curious about the technological part and how it applies.

    1. In general, I think understanding and adapting to technology as it evolves is what a business needs to understand. For example, financial software is available that would help an organization that may be not have the best financial team to determine their projected may turn to a financial software to help with financial situations therefore using technology to help find solutions. I also take into account email, emailing is very important because if you have a business that is worldwide and you need to communicate with people who are in other parts of the world and on different time zones, it would be pretty hard to set up a meeting time. Overall, I just think technology as whole is involved in some way with businesses.
